What we can see in the video of Alicia Keys “Unthinkable” is very
clear. First of all, the situation that is shown is about when some “white”
person likes another but of dark skin. Then it´s quite hateful to see that
situation in a musical video. However, we should understand the context and the
country of course in which this situation is having place. It´s not a secret
that this condition is in the United States, where exists kind of an idea of
color or race superiority about other skins´ tones. The video continues playing
and we realize that all uncomfortable standing is not about some decades ago,
it also continues happening in that country. It seems to be a problem not only
for some years, but it´s still happening nowadays.
I think that the most awful part is when the dark skin women appeared in
the supermarket; by the same time there is a white guy whose appearance is
really good. At the end of the shelf both of them came across and change looks,
but the cashier sees that situation as something really serious. Then another
problem appeared, the brother of the dark skin girl hits the white guy trying
to protect her. Here there is an important point because in the United States
the majority of the cities have special neighborhoods for the black people as
they call them.
I actually don´t understand what really happens with those people, for
me all of us are equal, we have the same capabilities to do things and to
think. It´s important to give importance to the African American people who
have done some really special things in order to give the society an
environment of peace and better coexistence. The point is not only judge people
by his or her color, what really matters is what any person can contribute to
the others, because at the end the human being have to look for the happiness. I
agree with the people or authors whose proposals were against racism, I think
it´s important to give the place black people deserve. And also by the
constantly changing times it´s an improvement to recognize that situation, it
shows us that some part of the society is starting to change that close mind to
become it in an open mind, that little change in the concept of the racism
could bring us better times and relations in this globalized world.
